DMCA stands for Digital Millennium Copyright Act.  The Act provides protection to owners of copyrighted property from unauthorized usage.  The protection that the law provides is not limited to Internet based infringement.  However, the Act is most closely associated with the ability to remove (takedown) pirated material from the Internet / Web.
